This is my kind of “Makeover Photography” – Super Grandma!

In shopping malls across America you can usually find a store called Glamour Shots. These stores specialize in “makeover photography”.  Using makeup and some photo editing, the goal is to capture a photo of someone looking their “best” for years to come.  While at the mall you will also be steps away from counters where you can also spend your hard-earned money on a variety of anti-aging potions, get your gray hair colored, and probably schedule some botox injections!

My friend Becky Bees turned me on to this fantastic story about French photographer Sacha Goldberger who found his “91-year-old Hungarian grandmother Frederika feeling lonely and depressed. To cheer her up, he suggested that they shoot a series of outrageous photographs in unusual costumes, poses, and locations. Grandma reluctantly agreed, but once they got rolling, she couldn’t stop smiling”.

I am sure Sacha could have taken Frederika to the local mall for a Glamour Shot session but this is a much more creative and positive “makeover”.  Some might view these photos as “foolish” but I think they make displaying touched up photos that hide the true signs of wisdom like wrinkles, crowsfeet and gray hair look even more foolish!

  • How fun. This is so encouraging to me, as a baby boomer! I’ll have to show the photo to my grandkids and see what they think. Looks like even more fun than our mini exercise bike! Thanks so much for sharing it.
