Description: Join other senior-serving professionals and the students, alumni, staff and faculty of the innovative Erickson School of Aging Studies at UMBC. This is a FREE event, refreshments, bring plenty of business cards and brochures. About Dr. Bill Thomas Dr. Bill Thomas, is an international authority on geriatric medicine and eldercare. He is a professor at the Erickson School and has been heavily involved in the culture change movement to promote elderhood as an honorable and valuable position in our society. He is the founder of the Eden Alternative, a philosophy and program that de-institutionalized nursing homes world-wide over the past 20 years. Most recently he developed the Green House, a radically new approach to long term care where nursing homes are torn down and replaced with small, home-like environments where people can live a full and interactive life. From Baltimore and Points North Take I-95 South towards DC. Take exit 47B for I-195 bearing right towards Catonsville. (Do NOT go towards BWI airport.) Stay in the middle lane following signs to Rt. 166. (Do NOT go towards the UMBC main campus.) At stop sign, turn left onto Rolling Road (Rt.166) (South towards Arbutus). Go 1/2 mile; make a right onto "Gun Road." (If you start to go over an overpass, you’ve gone too far.) Road immediately forks, bear to the left which leads to the Tech Center entrance. Proceed another 1/2 mile staying to the left to pass the front entrance. Proceed to parking lot on the left.

At the end of the ramp turn left onto Wilkens Avenue. Wilkens Avenue dead ends at Rolling Road (MD 166). At traffic light, turn left onto Rolling Road (Rt.166) (South towards Arbutus). Go 1/2 mile; make a right onto "Gun Road." (If you start to go over an overpass, you’ve gone too far.) Road immediately forks, bear to the left which leads to the Tech Center entrance. Proceed another 1/2 mile staying to the left to pass the front entrance. Proceed to parking lot on the left.

Description: Don’t miss one of the best networking locations on the calendar. Bring plenty of business cards and brochures! This event will feature Ben Cornthwaite, the Licensed Nursing Home Administrator at Greenspring will share his experience of living as a resident the nursing and rehabilitation center he manages for a week. Ben simulated the experience that residents face by using a wheelchair, wearing adult briefs, receiving staff assistance, and simulated a typical medication plan distributed with M & M’s. Ben will share his insights and experiences and lead a thought provoking discussion.
