The State Advisory Council on Physical Fitness recently awarded its 2006 Physical Activity Excellence Award in the older adult category to the Towson University/Baltimore County Department of Aging Senior Fitness Project. The judges believed that the Department of Aging’s fitness centers in Baltimore County senior citizens’ centers, staffed by the Towson University’s School of Health Professions, exemplifies “best practices in promoting physical activity and has a significant impact on the target population.”

The Department of Aging has fitness centers in the Towson, Cockeysville, Liberty, Dundalk and Catonsville areas, with two additional centers to open this year in Parkville and Pikesville. Each fitness center has “state of the art” exercise equipment, including airdyne bicycles, treadmills, steppers, free weights and a universal gym.
