Governor’s Leadership in Aging Awards Nominations Due March 30th

The Maryland Department of Aging is seeking nominations for the 5th Annual Governor’s Leadership in Aging Awards.  The awards ceremony is to take place at the Innovations in Aging 2012 conference in May.

Governor’s Leadership in Aging Awards

Award Categories


An individual, group or organization that demonstrates leadership in advocacy or developed an innovative program, research or training for seniors.


Determination of this award will be based on an outstanding or exceptional contribution to the lives of older adults.  Examples include an achievement, a particularly high quality of work, a set of skills, a creative idea or innovation, etc., by the applicant/nominee that can be shown to have an exceptional impact on the lives of older adults.

The identified contribution(s) may have resulted in a wide range of identifiable outcomes, including, but not limited to, enhancing the quality of life for seniors, improving safety, culture, or health, financial and/or other resource savings, improved services to seniors, or community outreach. The applicants/nominators must provide evidence of this impact on older adults.

Visual and Performing Arts

An individual or group of individuals 60 years or older who demonstrate excellence in the visual or performing arts.


For the purposes of this award, visual and performing arts are defined to include all aspects of creation and performance of all forms of drama, comedy, dance, music, opera, circus and puppetry, visual or plastic arts, crafts, film, electronic media or literature.

For this award, an entry must demonstrate extraordinary characteristics or unusual and outstanding aspects that go beyond the expected norms.

Entry may be described in narrative form; but be sure to include samples of all supporting materials. We encourage materials be submitted in green formats. Provide as much in electronic [CD or DVD] media as possible.

Health & Vitality

An individual 60 years or older who demonstrates a commitment to healthy living and who Serves as a role model to others.


This award focuses on the demonstrating the value of leading a healthy lifestyle and recognizing individuals who have served as role models and who have helped other older adults make changes that will lead to life-long improvements in health.
