AARP Announces First Global Network Serving Maturing Populations on International Scale

Washington, D.C. — February 14, 2007 — AARP Global Network today announced that Copenhagen-based DaneAge Association, one of the largest membership organizations in the world serving the 50+ population, joins the AARP Global Network as a Charter Member. Created by AARP, the US-based membership organization for people age 50 and over, and the first venture of its kind, the AARP Global Network harnesses the collective power of national organizations serving mature populations around the world and supports them in bringing about positive social change for their respective constituencies.

“The AARP Global Network was created so that a group of like-minded national organizations could come together and have access to the collective tools and resources of these member organizations,” said Ladan Manteghi, president of AARP Global Network. “Our intent is to help strengthen organizations where they exist and build new ones where they do not. We want to support these organizations to be more effective and efficient in influencing policy, society, and the marketplace in their respective countries.”

Founded in the spirit of collaboration, the AARP Global Network provides field-tested, proven solutions, resources and expertise to national organizations representing the interest of mature populations. These benefits include membership recruitment, retention and engagement; marketing techniques and strategies; product and services development; media content and information development; and advocacy, among other services.

Yet, the value of Network membership goes beyond resources afforded to the organizations themselves by creating direct benefits for the constituents they serve. Through the AARP Global Network, individual members gain entry into a global community of mature citizens with expanded benefits and privileges such as special services, discounts and the ability to directly communicate and share experiences with peers around the world. Reciprocity of benefits to individual members of AARP Global Network organizations begins in January 2008.

DaneAge Association is a national membership organization representing Denmark’s aging population. Through advocacy work and member support, DaneAge promotes an individual’s right — irrespective of age — to self-determination, social inclusion, and an active and meaningful life. Founded in 1986, DaneAge has nearly 500,000 members. Today, one out of every four Danes age 50+ is a member of the association.

The AARP Global Network will continue to expand opportunities which bring value to mature markets by bringing on additional members and sponsors from across the globe. Currently, the Network is pursuing organizations that have an existing infrastructure primed for serving the aging population in their respective markets — specifically, organizations in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Mexico and the Netherlands.
