Maplewood Park Place is a resident-owned cooperative community located in Bethesda, Maryland. Built in 1996, Maplewood’s 207 spacious homes provide their owners with all the tax advantages of home ownership, like deductibility of interest and real estate taxes, and even a medical deduction. Self Governance at Work
Maplewood is run for seniors and by seniors. The services and Co-op boards are comprised of current residents, Maplewood managers and a group of senior experts outside of Maplewood that focus on the community’s success.  Nearly every aspect of life at Maplewood, from ground maintenance, to maintaining quality service employees, to choosing the dining menus is influenced by residents and our managers alike.  Residents participate in more than 20 committees that generate a quality of life that makes Maplewood unique.

Maplewood Park Place Committees & Boards

  • Activity Advisory Committee Meets monthly to critique past events/activities and to discuss the various future activities residents would like to attend, who they would like to have present lectures, and to review all suggested activities.
  • Art Committee Exercising artistic excellence, the art committee wants you to join the talented artists at Maplewood to help create and orchestrate Maplewood's Art Gallery Exhibits.
  • Building & Facilities Committee With an on-going strive for architectural excellence; this committee meets monthly to help maintain the community's appearence and sound structure. Residents influence renovation idea and/or expansion of the building and facility. 
  • Decorating Committee This committee invites you to help enhance the presence of Maplewood's attractive atmosphere.  Stunning seasonal decorating tastefully accent the community.
  • Emergency Preparedness Committee Reassuring residents with the comfort and reliability of fine-tuned emergency proceedures, this committee gathers to discuss steps to be taken for staff & residents during emergency situations. .
  • Flower Arrangers Fresh-cut flowers, imagination and attention to details defines the drive of this committee.  Helping to enhance the dining room experience and allowing residents to enjoy seasonal flower arrangements and tastefully gathered stems.
  • Dining Operations, Food & Beverage Committee Savor your favorite foods.  On a weekly basis, this committee helps influence Maplewood's award-winning menu of appealing entrees and select variety of courteously served meals.
  • Health Issues Committee Voice your opinion on health issues and services throughout the community to better meet the needs of our residents.
  • Hospitality Committee Graciously gathers to organize new-resident welcoming events, vivacious activities and more!
  • Landscaping Committee Meets monthly. The residents create preferences for upkeep, improvements, and beautification of MPP within budgetary guidelines set and approved by our management company and the community board. The committee's prime objective is to assist in maintaining the community's award-winning and utterly impressive property landscape.
  • Library Committee Keeping popular books, magazines and newspapers available and up-to-date enables residents to enjoy a variety of literature in the library.  Book club meets on a regular basis for in-depth discussion on select novels.
  • Marketing Committee Assists with ideas, eye-catching designs and frequent review of marketing approaches for Maplewood.
  • Movie Committee Selects popular movies and monthly Friday and Monday showing schedule as well as movie outings.
  • Neighbor To Neighbor Committee Committee members are available to visit and assist residents that may be ill, escort to and from the hospital and/or doctor's office if needed beyond the scheduled transportation offered at Maplewood. 
  • Newsletter Committee Extra, Extra!  Read All About It!  Write, review and submit articles and literature pieces of intriguing experiences or stories to Maplewood's monthly newsletter, The Messenger.
  • Resident Gift Fund Committee Meets to organize Maplewood's gracious yearly gift collection.  Gifts distributed amongst the hard-working team members that help make Maplewood an enjoyable Gracious Senior Living Community.
  • Transportation Committee Meets as needed. This committee helps with purchasing new vehicles, transportation policies & procedures, etc.
  • Workshop Committee Residents take particular interest in crafsmanship and carpentry.  The "Mr. & Mrs. Fix-It" residents of Maplewood gather to design, referbish and work on craft projects.
  • Budget & Finance Committee Meet as needed. Purpose: To provide a forum for resident oversight and input into annual budget process, including establishment of any changes to the monthly fees. The committee also reviews and responds to questions from all residents regarding the financial state of affairs for MPP.
  • Quality Committee Meet quarterly. Reviews and monitors the quality of all services provided at MPP as well as the appearance of the community, etc.
  • Ad-Hoc Large Building Elements Committee
  • Rules & Regulations Committee Meet as needed. Purpose: To review the community's Rules and Regulations. Make recommendations to the Board.
  • Cooperative Housing Corporation Review and determine necessary courses of action for all policies and financial decisions related to the operation of the Cooperative Housing Corporation. Meets Monthly
  • Retirement Services Inc. Meets Monthly. Review and determine necessary courses of action for all policies and financial decisions related to the operation of the Retirement Services, Inc. Board


Our Executive Chef and his staff prepare a wide array of delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, each with an assortment of offerings. The kitchen can also cater specifically to a variety of nutritional needs and tastes.

Residents may also order meals for pick up or to be delivered by room service. Maplewood offers extensive catering services that can be used in your private residence, in any of our beautiful community rooms, or our private dining room.
