More than 250 runners are expected to participate in the Intergenerational 5K to Defeat Dementia organized by Martins Run Senior Living Community. The event, now in its fifth year, is slated for Sunday, October 5 at Ridley Creek State Park (Area 17) in Newtown Square, and will feature Chris O’Connell of FOX29 News as honorary race chair.

The Fifth Annual Intergenerational 5K to Defeat Dementia consists of a 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk as well as Kids’ Races and senior stroll. Raffle prizes and cash awards will also be provided. Anyone from age three to 103 may register. Also, the public is welcome to come out and support the runners while enjoying food, music by DJ Bob Burke, games, and giveaways from local merchants throughout the morning. Additional entertainment, including magician, Dan Zimmerman, will also be part of the festivities.

On-site registration for the race opens at 8:00 a.m. Kids’ races will start at 8:45 a.m. followed by the main event 5K at 9 a.m. All morning, attendees may enjoy food, free giveaways, music, games and other entertainment. Runners from all over Media and the surrounding communities have already signed up to participate, and anyone is welcome to register.

For those who are unable to attend the event, grab a bite at UNO on West Chester Pike on October 5, and a portion of the proceeds will go toward the race. Simply present your UNO voucher with purchase, or mention Martins Run’s 5K to receive one! Vouchers can also be printed from the 2014 5K Run page on the Martins Run website. Also, contributions and pledges can be made to Martins Run on behalf of a resident or runner.
