Arden Courts Kensington suffered an untimely fire on June 18 and we have lost the use of our Country Lane House (16 rooms) for several months

1) Quotes from Letters and Comments from our Families: “We need to commend you and your staff on the manner in which last Saturday’s emergency was handled. We arrived with the first fire truck and your staff assured us that all the residents were safe in the back courtyard. Each member of the staff did what they could to keep the residents out of the sun and made sure that each person had everything they needed, especially cold water, and were not in any distress. This is a credit to you, to the training given to the staff and to the dedication of the staff. ”

2) Washington Post Article: Captain Oscar Garcia, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman, said that no injuries were reported from the fire. Other media comments: Kensington was able to evacuate their 56 residents in under 7 minutes.

3) Peggy Rowell, the Executive Director, will hold a meeting within two weeks to review the facilities present smoking policy with staff, agency care providers in our building, visitors and guests and to discuss the implementation of a new smoking policy.

4) RENOVATIONS: Our Country Lane House will be renovated with the latest colors, furnishing and engagement therapy tools geared toward those with dementia. ManorCare is on the cutting-edge for dementia care and concerns. In the 1990’s it developed the dementia concept for care, and from 2003 to the present the implementation of engagement therapy and the Montessori concept for stimulation and involvement.

To all our families, friends, and associates in the field of aging, co-workers and acquaintances a special thank you for your prayers and support during this time. Hats off to Arden Courts Potomac and Silver Springs along with ManorCare-Silver Spring for their concern, commitment to service and diligence in caring for our residents during this challenge.

Kudos to all our Arden Courts and Springhouse managers and nursing staff that did an outstanding job on Sunday, June 18 and helped us move our residents immediately and effectively. We could not have done it without their support. Last but not least, praises to the 130+ firefighters and rescue personnel that saved the day, extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes, and spent the rest of the time assisting us with our residents.

We will have at least 5 new, pristine rooms available starting in late August along with our dynamic engagement and Montessori programs. Plan to attend our new wing’s GRAND OPENING. We are striving to make a tremendous difference in dementia care!Call (301) 493-7881 extension 210 for referrals
