Police Cruiser Crashes Into Nursing Home

SAN MATEO, Calif. — What started as a traffic collision in San Mateo ended with a police cruiser slamming into a nursing home, according to police. No one was inside the room when the cruiser crashed through the walls of Atria Hillsdale Retirement and Assisted Living at about 6 p.m. Saturday. San Mateo police said the officer was driving down Hillsdale Boulevard when he crashed into a station wagon. The collision sent the officer’s vehicle over a sidewalk, through a fence and into the nursing home. The crash sparked a small fire that firefighters quickly extinguished. No one at the nursing home was hurt. The officer was taken to Stanford Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
