Pitching products and services to aging boomers
The first wave of baby boomers turns 60 this year, and manufacturers couldn’t be more excited.
Of the nation’s 76 million boomers, 2.8 million turn 60 this year and 17.8 million more by 2011. Add to that the 55 million Americans already over 60 and the numbers promise a lucrative target audience for decades to come.
“We are going to have a huge jump, (where) one in four is going to be over 60,” Manufacturers Alliance economist Cliff Waldman said. “The demographic shift … translates into enough revenue to be industry-changing for a number of U.S. manufacturers.”
