OAKLAND, Maryland – Hazmat and rescue workers as of nine a.m. Monday are still evacuating the Oakland nursing and rehab center in Garrett County after reports of a chemical leak in the building.

Fire and rescue workers said they responded to the home on 706 East Alder Street shortly after midnight Monday. Emergency services were called after several employees at the center thought that they might have inhaled a chlorine based substance.

Two employees were transported to Garrett memorial hospital but rescue workers said their injuries are not serious. Officials said it is a large nursing home but there is still no word on how many people have been evacuated.
