NORCs a Growing Segment of Senior Housing

(March 8, 2006) — Although it’s not part of mainstream vocabulary yet, the acronym NORC is popping up more and more in discussions about senior housing.
A NORC, or “naturally occurring retirement community,” can be any community, neighborhood, apartment complex, or even building in which a majority of residents are 60 years of age or older.
Virtually any place with a high concentration of seniors “” from cooperative buildings on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue to rural towns “” might be dubbed a NORC.
