Music helps residents at assisted living center
The Mancos-based founder of the I’d Like to Teach the World to Play program provides bi-weekly music therapy for dementia residents and hospice patients at Vista Mesa Assisted Living Residence.
For an hour Friday afternoon, Lipman and about a dozen residents formed a circle, sang and played the drums, chimes, and American Indian and Japanese flutes. Lipman uses his program to instill independence, increase self-esteem and encourage integration among his elderly students.
“It’s gratifying to see the seniors happy and to share in those positive qualities that music brings out,” Lipman said at Vista Mesa after the session. “Everybody … has music in them.”
