ROCKVILLE, MD — Potomac Valley Nursing and Wellness Center will kick off their Memory Walk on Saturday, May 12, 2007.at 11:00 AM. All proceeds from the Potomac Valley Memory Walk will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association to support Alzheimer’s research, support services, education and advocacy.
Alzheimer’s disease affects more than five million Americans of every race, gender and culture, and costs our nation more than $100 billion a year. Unless we find a way to change the course of the disease, as many as 16 million Americans could have the disease by 2050. Alzheimer’s disease currently impacts the lives of 460,800 people in the D.C. Metro area.
Memory Walk takes place in more than 600 communities across the United States and this year, more than 200,000 participants and volunteers will join in taking steps to end Alzheimer’s. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $200 million to help those battling Alzheimer’s disease.
“With the increasing potential for this disease to continue to spread, along with its draining financial burden on victims and their families, it behooves us to support all efforts in eradicating this disease. That is why we are committed to support any and all efforts in raising funds for research into a cure for Alzheimer’s. We look forward to meeting and thanking you for your support at our Memory Walk here at Potomac Valley Nursing and Wellness Center,” says Gunnar Dahlberg, Community Outreach Manager. “In addition to the Walk, there will be food, health screenings and activities for all members of the family to enjoy and opportunities to learn. Come; spend an hour or two with us.”
“Memory Walk is a wonderful way to join family, friends, caregivers and concerned community members — all wanting to make a difference,” says Anthony Sudler, President and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association, National Capital Area Chapter. “We encourage anyone who has been affected by Alzheimer’s disease either directly or indirectly to come out and help us raise funds and awareness for this worthy cause.”
