Lynn E. Chaitovitz Elder Care Consultant
Lynn E. Chaitovitz, 73, an elderly care consultant to providers of services
for the aged, died Aug. 18  at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford,
Del., of complications from progressive supranuclear palsy. She had been a
North Bethesda resident.
Mrs. Chaitovitz, who had a private consulting practice from 1988 to 2008,
was an authority on housing and long-term care assistance to the elderly.
Her clients included Marriott, major construction companies and the Maryland
Department of Aging.
Before working as a consultant, she was a chief planner from 1976 to 1988
for what is now the Montgomery County Office of Aging and Adult Services.
Lynn Ellen Ehrlich was born in Rye, N.Y., and moved to the District when she
was 5. She was a 1954 graduate of Wilson High School and received a
bachelor’s degree in political science from Smith College in Northampton,
Mass., in 1958.
From 1959 to 1963, she was a claims representative for the Social Security
Administration in New Rochelle, N.Y. She moved back to the Washington region
in the late 1960s.
She served on the board of the Alzheimer’s Association, Montgomery County’s
Adult Public Guardianship Review Board and the services board of Maplewood
Park, a retirement community in Bethesda. She was a past member of the
League of Women Voters.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Samuel Chaitovitz of North
Bethesda; three daughters, Ann Chaitovitz of Washington, Laura Cope of North
Bethesda and Susan Chaitovitz of Frederick; a brother, Richard Ehrlich of
Rockville; and three grandchildren.
