Rockville, MD””June 8, 2006– JSSA (The Jewish Social Service Agency) is seeking adult volunteers for two programs that help provide an enhanced quality of life to individuals with serious, life-threatening or terminal illness and their families.

JSSA’s hospice program provides supportive care for terminally ill individuals and their families in their homes; the Transitions program provides similar volunteer services to patients and their families living with life-limiting illness and the effects of treatment.
Transitions and hospice volunteers visit with patients and their families in their homes and in residential facilities. They provide friendship, help with errands, chores and food preparation, provide transportation and offer short-term respite care. The programs are nonsectarian.
JSSA offers highly specialized training for prospective volunteers in both programs. The next training session will be on Wednesday evening, September 13 and run through to October 11. Each session will be held at the JSSA Rockville office from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
