Washington, D.C.… Dr. JC Hayward, Vice President for Media Outreach, WUSA Channel 9 and Vice President for Media Outreach and Spokesperson, dvmOurTime.com and Sandy Kursban, Founder/Chairman, Family & Nursing Care and the Family & Nursing Care Foundation will be honored with Leadership in Aging Awards at a gala event. The gala, featuring a silent and live auction and a cocktail and dessert reception, will be held on June 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at The Fannie Mae Building, 3900 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Washington. Bob Levey, former columnist for The Washington Post, will be the master of ceremonies. Proceeds from the event will benefit Episcopal Senior Ministries (ESM).
The Leadership in Aging Awards recognize providers of innovative and outstanding service to older adults in the Washington area. Dr. Hayward is honored for her work as an advocate for aging adults in our community through her work at WUSA Channel 9 TV and the website dvmOurTime.com, the station’s website for the 50-plus audience member. According to Dr. Hayward, “This is a touching award for me! Seniors have always had a special place in my heart. I’m honored that Episcopal Senior Ministries has selected me to be included in a prestigious group.”
Sandy Kursban founded Family & Nursing Care to provide home care for older adults who wish to remain independent, but cannot do so without assistance. Last year Ms. Kursban established the Family & Nursing Care Foundation to support community organizations that provide low income seniors with the dedicated home care and to offer homecare training programs for individuals who want to become nurses and nursing assistants so that they may care for older adults. In accepting this award, Ms. Kursban says, “I’m pleased and humbled to be honored in this way by ESM, an organization committed to so many of the same values and goals that I am. Our mutual efforts to help older adults live with the independence and dignity they deserve are more important today than ever before.”
Tickets for the gala are $125 – $175 and are available by calling 202-414-6313. Proceeds support ESM’s free or low cost services to support older adults including housing, care management, home repair and maintenance, volunteer services, transportation, and community education. Event sponsors include BB&T, the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, Fannie Mae Corporation, Family & Nursing Care, Holladay Corporation, RE/MAX, and Secure Horizons by United Healthcare.
