Innovative Nursing Home in New York City faces hurdles

One of the New York Cities largest nursing homes is on the verge of clinching a controversial land-swap deal that would give its huge Upper West Side facility to two developers in exchange for cash and a smaller site on which it would build a pioneering “non-institutional” facility for the frail elderly. But the Jewish Home’s plan has touched off protests from community residents who say the project will overwhelm their congested neighborhood.
