A direct result of India’s rapid economic growth, which has brought enormous social change — including the traditional ways that families care for their elders.

Rising costs, shrinking living spaces and increased job mobility mean the aged are increasingly left alone and forced to turn to some form of assisted living, the quality of which varies hugely depending on their financial means.

Latest census figures show that the average family size in India has dropped from seven members to five in the last 10 years.
