Grant will help Radford University's geriatric nursing program
Nearly one in five people in the New River Valley are older than 60, and Radford University officials say the community has particular health care needs.
One of those is in the area of geriatric nursing.
Recently, Radford University nursing professor Virginia Burggraf has received a $245,000 grant that will help continue the school’s geriatric nursing program.
The Comprehensive Geriatric Nursing grant comes from the Health Resources and Services Administration, which first awarded Burggraf funds in 2003 to educate students in geriatric nursing.
The current three-year grant will maintain gerontological nursing continuing education in areas of care: acute and home care, hospice, long-term care and mental health.
