Services and Advocacy for Gay,Lesbian, and Bisexual & Transgender Elders (SAGE) today announced thelaunch of a visibility and education campaign featuring lesbian, gay,bisexual and transgender (LGBT) seniors and their allies. The ads willappear in print publications in New York as well as on New York Citytransit and phone kiosks around the city. This is the first time acampaign of this scope has addressed the visibility and needs of diverseLGBT seniors, a rapidly growing part of the larger LGBT community.”We are thrilled to launch this groundbreaking campaign and put a faceon the diverse and growing LGBT senior population,” said Michael Adams,SAGE Executive Director.
“SAGE is committed to providing leadership inthe LGBT community through public education and visibility to increaseawareness – this ad campaign is just one example. These images will senda message rarely seen in the media: that there is no expiration date ona full, active life,” Adams said. “Our main goals are to increase the number of affirming images of aging,create awareness of SAGE and encourage support of our growing serviceneeds,” continued Adams. “The LGBT community – like the generalpopulation – has a growing segment of aging adults, and this campaigngives voice to the seniors who have a full life which is enhanced bybeing a SAGE member and participating in the services SAGE offers, weknow there will be a need for more advocacy on behalf of LGBT seniorsand certainly a need for more services – it is time to start making thepublic more aware of the situation” concluded Adams.
