Managing the risk of residents falling in Independent Living settings poses unique
challenges and requires specialized strategies. Drawing from the experience of
Charlestown Retirement Community’s Falls Intervention Team (FIT) for independent residents,
this presentation will focus on identifying who is at risk, assessing the environment to minimize risk,
fitness and balance classes and educating residents about health, strength and falls prevention.
Discussion will explore how to adapt some or all of these concepts to develop or improve
your falls prevention program. Participants will share the interventions that work for their
residents and will learn from one-another.
