Case Management Society of America (CMSA) joins CARF
The Case Management Society of America (CMSA), a leading nonprofit association dedicated to the support and development of the profession of case management, has accepted a seat on CARF’s International Advisory Council (IAC). CARF International accredits health and human services.
The IAC comprises organizational and individual members who represent the spectrum of CARF’s accreditation services. Members include persons receiving services, service providers, professionals in the field, governmental agencies, and purchasers. The IAC provides guidance on the development of the CARF standards and issues affecting fields in which CARF offers accreditation.
According to CMSA Executive Director Cheri Lattimer, RN, B.S.N., “As the professional association for case managers, CMSA works with a variety of accreditation and certification bodies to enhance the practice of case management. We are honored to join the IAC in its efforts to promote quality and consumer-focused products and services across the healthcare continuum.”
CMSA is dedicated to advocating for patients’ well-being and improved health outcomes by fostering case management growth and development, impacting healthcare policy, and providing evidence-based tools and resources.
“Case managers play an important role in assuring quality service provision in the programs and services CARF accredits. CMSA’s input and collaboration as an IAC member will help to advance quality for persons served,” Brian J. Boon, Ph.D., president and CEO of CARF International, said.
Many service providers seeking CARF accreditation provide case management services as a routine function of their services or programs; however, they can apply additional standards specifically related to case management to distinguish those services.
Margaret Leonard, M.S., RN-BC, FNP, CMSA president, will represent CMSA on the IAC.
With the addition of CMSA, the IAC encompasses 38 organizational and 5 individual members. A list of the IAC members can be found at www.carf.org/members.
