Caregivers' Conference Registration Extended
The Prince William Long Term Care Coordinating Committee and Westminster at Lake Ridge are co-hosting a conference on caregiving for the elderly called “A Compass for Caregivers.” The conference will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Westminster at Lake Ridge, 12191 Clipper Drive, in Woodbridge, Virginia, 22192, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The conference will feature keynote speaker Teepa Snow. Ms. Snow is an occupational therapist currently serving as Education Director and Lead Trainer for the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She is also a Counseling Associate for the Duke University School of Nursing. Ms. Snow has over twenty five years experience in the field of geriatrics. She has been a direct care provider in community, long-term care and rehabilitation sites. Ms. Snow is a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association and has received local, statewide, and national recognition for her expertise in geriatrics and dementia care.
Additional conference speakers will include Emily Ruebsamen, Former Director of the Woodbridge Senior Day Program, who will speak about Area Agencies on Aging and assistance available to caregivers through those agencies, Steve Gurney, Publisher of the Guide to Retirement Living, who will discuss housing options for seniors and, Barbara Watts, Area Director for Marketing and Business Development at Capital Hospice, who will provide information about hospice services.
The conference will be an excellent opportunity for local and long distance caregivers, professionals in the areas of geriatric health care and social work and volunteers who work with the elderly. It will explore many common caregiver problems and issues, and offer practical solutions and suggestions for increasing communication, improving coping skills and connecting caregivers to resources.
The cost is $25 per person, $45 per couple, and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and respite care (if required).
