When Pittsburgh artist and teacher Jerry Caplan died at the age of 81 on Jan. 15, 2004, he left behind not only an amazing body of work and a teaching career that spanned nearly 40 years — 29 of which were spent at Chatham College. He also left behind longtime companion and studio mate Donna Hollen Bolmgren.Friends for almost 30 years, Bolmgren and Caplan shared studio space for 18 of those years, each to their own room but nevertheless forging a bond through their day-to-day interactions and mutual creative personalities. It was a bond that went well beyond two artists simply working side by side.
