Britain’s Old Age Crisis – Investigative Report

The Independent takes a hard look at the failings in Britain’s approach to the care of its elderly people.  The article cites the following from a recently release report of the Care Quality Commission:

Unannounced visits to 100 NHS hospitals it found:

  • that fewer than half feed old people properly or treat them with compassion or dignity
  • One in three hospitals needed to make improvements in one or both areas.
  • One in five were so bad they were actually breaking the law in their treatment of the elderly.
