The Charles C. Knox Home has sometimes been described as "one of the best keep secrets of the Main Line". For more than 50 years the home, located in a quiet residential neighborhood of Wynnewood, has been a comfortable residence for older adults. Because there are only 24 residents, there is a warm and friendly "family" atmosphere to the Home.

Built in the 1850s by Josiah Knox, the house later came into the possession of one of Josiah's sons, Charles C. Knox, a bachelor, who lived in it until his death in 1939. By his will and that of his sister, Margaret Knox Green, the family homestead was bequeathed in trust as a home for older adults. After extensive construction, it was open for its first guests in March of 1941.

The Charles C. Knox Home is non-sectarian and open to person 65 years of age and older, without regard to race or creed. Resident must be ambulatory at all times and capable of independent living, No skilled nursing or long-term heath care is provided.

Resident have private rooms (with shared baths) on the second and third floors, serviced by an elevator. There are also a few room with a private bath. Rooms may be furnished by the residents themselves or with furniture supplied by the Home.

Three daily meals are provided in an attractive, air-conditioned dining room; the main meal of the day is served at noon.

Transportation is offered three morning a week for residents who have appoinments with doctors, hairdressers or barbers. Residents who wish to go shopping have access to a SEPTA bus (#106 from 69th street to Ardmore) which stops within a block of the Home.
