Resident Counselor III (Case Manager)


Gaithersburg, MD


The candidate will provide case management services to older adults residing in a subsidized independent-living apartment community.  The candidate will provide information and referral, crisis intervention and eviction prevention counseling, and will plan programs with community partners to promote residents' wellbeing.  This is a one year term position.  Minimum starting salary: $43,394. EOE.
 
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field (MSW preferred) and a minimum of three years experience providing case management or counseling.   Two years of experience working with seniors is preferred.  Candidate should also have experience working with people with disabilities, including behavioral and/or mental health disabilities.  Candidate should have familiarity with the aging process, senior services and programs, disability services, eligibility for and procedures of Federal and applicable State entitlement programs, legal liability issues relating to providing service coordination, drug and alcohol use and abuse by the elderly, and mental health issues.  Candidate must have the ability to relate well to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.  Position requires excellent assessment, oral and written communication skills, good computer skills (Word), a good driving record and have own transportation.  Candidate should have working knowledge of community resources.  Bi-lingual skills a plus.
 
This is a 1 Yr Term Position with Benefits. Job continuance is based on funding.

The Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC) administers a variety of housing programs in its quest to provide subsidized housing to low and moderate income individuals and families. The two largest are Public Housing and the Housing Choice Voucher program (previously known as "Section 8).

The Montgomery County government provides funding for the Commission to manage the following service programs:
Affordable Housing Development: acquires Moderately Priced Dwelling Units (MPDUs) for rental to lower-income families;
Public Housing Management: maintains community norms and relationships between homeowner associations and public housing residents;
Services to Residents in Assisted Housing: provides counseling and support services to low-income individuals and families in assisted housing; and
Housing Resource Service: provides up-to-date information on available housing programs.
