A presentation by Janine Tursini, Director & CEO ARTS FOR THE AGING
JOY IN GENERATION: Finding the potential for self-expression that lies within us all, no matter what is our age.
Dedicated to combating isolation in older adult communities throughout the D.C. metro area, AFTA makes the joy of arts engagement accessible to those especially who are vulnerable and frail. Since 1988, Arts for the Aging programs evolved from the belief that people, even those with physical and cognitive impairments, have an inherent need for self-expression. AFTA is named a Trailblazer by the Maryland Governor for Leadership in Aging and a model in lifelong learning and creative aging by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and its methodology is featured in the groundbreaking publication Creativity Matters: The Arts & Aging Toolkit (link to the free resource, in English and Spanish, at www.aftaarts.org/newsroom).
