History Lecture – “The Last Campaign” – Commemorating 150th Anniversary of the End of the Civil War

Friday, April 10 at 12:30 PM

This lecture commemorates the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War with Robert E. Lee’s surrender on April 9, 1865. Historian Robert Bond presents “The Last Campaign” –   covering the last few months of the Civil War, the fall of Richmond and Petersburg to the Union, the flight of Lee’s Army west and his eventual surrender at Appomattox. Other topics includes the failed Peace Conference of February 1865, Lincoln’s visit to Richmond after the Confederates left, Lincoln’s assassination, the brief escape of Jefferson Davis, and finally a brief discussion of the three Civil War Amendments to the Constitution.
