Senior Housing Developer Finds Profits in Coops

A Minnesota company, United Properties is finding success with coop housing focused on seniors.  The company is planning its first assisted living project President Frank Dutke  said, the co-ops are the single most consistent business after grocery stores. Cooperatives differ from condos in that they are owned by a nonprofit corporation holding a master mortgage. Erickson Retirement Community Founder Faces Lawsuit

The Baltimore Sun reports that John Erickson, who founded the Baltimore based Erickson Retirement Communities in 1983, is accused, along with his family members and other former board members, of approving company assets for private use. The company has since been bought by a local entrepreneur and operates under new leadership as Erickson Living. Read article

Barclay House, Pennswood Village’s Personal Care Residence has been awarded a prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED©) Gold Rating by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its recent $7 million renovation. Taking a shower in a nursing and rehab center

As I have mentioned, the other communities I have stayed in were independent and assisted living and my accommodations included a full bathroom and kitchen. At first glance my room at Keswick seemed to be equal to most hotels I have stayed in. As I was unpacking my toothbrush in the bathroom, I realized that I didn’t have a shower! It’s not a Nursing Home for me tonight . . . it’s a Hotel!

I arrived at Keswick Multi-Care Center this afternoon. This community offers assisted living and nursing care, so I was pleasantly surprised that I would be staying in a skilled nursing room tonight! All of my stays up to this point have been in Independent or Assisted Living apartments so I am excited to say that I have now stayed in the full continuum of care! I arrived at Keswick Multi-Care Center this afternoon. This community offers assisted living and nursing care, so I was pleasantly surprised that I would be staying in a skilled nursing room tonight! All of my stays up to this point have been in Independent or Assisted Living apartments so I am excited to say that I have now stayed in the full continuum of care!
